Cole Powell earned his first NASCAR Pinty’s Series pole position on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway en route to a fourth-pace finish in the Copp’s Buildall / Kubota Canada #3.
“First pole was awesome, especially at New Hampshire,” he explained after the event. “After my spotter told me my first lap I knew I could be a little quicker on the second lap so I drove it in real hard and got on the gas hard coming out and just stuck with it!”.
Earning the pole position with a time of 31.860 seconds meant that Powell would lead the field to the green flag: again a first for him in the Pinty’s Series.
“It was awesome leading the field to the green flag and leading a few laps, but after about lap ten the car started getting really, really loose. It was a handful to keep off the wall. We gave up track position and came down pit road to make an adjustment and gas up: it tightened the car up a little bit but not enough to catch the leaders”.
Only one race remains in Powell’s inaugural season in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series: the finale at Jukasa Speedway near Hamilton on Saturday, September 29.
“I’m just focused on trying to win Jukasa,” he explained. “I don’t have a ride for next year so hopefully I can finish the year off strong and stay in the top-3 in points”.
