The second street course of the year for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series had its highs and lows for Cole Powell in the #3 Copps Buildall / Kubota entry where he was able to pull off an eleventh-place finish in a competitive field on Sunday. After starting deep in the field, seventeenth place, Powell was able to climb as high as seventh spot before getting shuffled into his final finishing position.
“During qualifying we were still getting used to the track,” said Powell. “We didn’t qualify good but drove up as high as seventh and got tangled in someone else’s mess that sent us back.”
Powell said that the event, overall, went much better than the previous street event at the Honda Indy in Toronto.
“Our road course program, myself, and the team are moving forward which is good,” he added. “We’re still fighting in these street races but definitely going the right way which is a positive we can take when we go to the next road course at Canadian Tire Motorsports park.”
Already looking forward to Riverside Speedway in Nova Scotia this weekend, Powell has his sights set high.
“We’re back in our wheel-house on oval next: back in the comfort zone. We need a good finish there to get back in the points. Hopefully after Riverside we can get back up into the top three.”
Powell will enter the Riverside Speedway event sitting fourth in the overall points standings.
