Heading West with Cole Powell

The western swing of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series summer schedule kicks off on Wednesday evening and Cole Powell is looking at getting the season back on track in the #3 Copps Buildall / Kubota Chevrolet with a pair of oval events.  The team enters the pair of events sitting fourth in the championship points standings.

“I have a lot more confidence heading into the western swing than I did heading into Toronto Indy weekend,” said Powell. “I feel like we’ll be back to running where we should be”.

It all starts Wednesday night at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon where the series will run a pair of 125-lap races. Three days later it continues at Edmonton International Raceway in Alberta.

“On the last two ovals we figured out that these are pretty long races and just staying out of trouble and saving your car for when it counts is very important”.

The events will be a proving ground for Powell: with the tracks so far away from home in Ontario that there’s simply no chance to practice until arriving at the track for the actual event.

“Prepping for these races is tough since they are so far away,” said Powell. “It would cost an arm and a leg to go test. I’ve been watching last year’s races on YouTube to get ready”.

Fans can keep up with Powell during the event on Twitter where the team will be posting updates on his progress at both events.
