Cole Powell brought home a solid sixth-pace finish in the Clarington 200 at Bowmanville Ontario’s Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on Sunday afternoon. The race, which featured a competitive 22-car field, was his inaugural NASCAR Pinty’s Series event and first-ever road course competition.
Powell started off fourteenth on the grid after qualifying was rained out on Saturday. The starting lineup was set based on last season’s owners points.
“Our game plan stayed the same [even without regular qualifying]: keep our fenders on and stay out of trouble,” said Powell after the event. “Overall, the day went really well.”
After pitting around lap 20 for four new tires, Powell tucked in behind some experienced road racers to keep building his own confidence on the course. As the race wore on he found he was able to pass a few drivers as well.
“Things were pretty fortunate for us, a few people had mechanical issues,” added Powell. “Their misfortune was our luck.”
The next race event for Cole Powell in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series is at Jukasa Speedway near Hamilton on Saturday, June 16. (Details)
