Cole Powell drove the #73 Tricar Dodge to a difficult seventeenth-place finish in the Pinty’s Fall Brawl at Jukasa Motor Speedway for Saturday night’s NASCAR Pinty’s Series season finale. After a reasonably strong start in the event, the team’s fortunes would be dashed by a flat tire in the second half of the race.
After qualifying was rained out, starting positions were set based on practice times which saw the team start from the ninth position. As the race got underway Powell quickly worked his way up to sixth-place by the tenth lap, before settling into 8th place heading into the halfway break in the 200-lap race. After the halfway point in the event, it was evident that a backwards slide had begun.
“The car just seemed to have a mind of its own,” Powell said. “It just ended up getting really loose.”
The decision was made to pit under caution heading into the end of the race in hopes of correcting the problem, which resulted in falling off the lead lap. Hopes of returning to the lead lap with the free pass, if another caution came, never materialized as the field ran to the finish under green.
“We ended up getting a flat right-rear tire and that ended up putting me a lap down,” he explained. “It’s a tough deal when you aren’t the primary car: but congratulations to Andrew Ranger with winning the 2019 championship.”
